You Are Not Helpless

Some people say we live in a divided society and that democracy is broken. But the British democracy – any democracy, actually – depends on well-informed citizens doing their bit. We can all help to heal this country and take responsibility.

The most important thing you can do is vote in all elections. That means taking a few moments to read up for local elections as well as the ones for Parliament and the European Parliament. You also need to make sure you’re on the Electoral Register to have a vote. You can sign up here.

But that’s not your only option. As a resident of Britain you have the right to see you local MP and talk to them about things that matter to you. This is an extremely valuable feature in British democracy which we should all cherish and make use of. Each and every one of us is actually in charge of the system.

The idea of meeting your MP may be a bit scary, but with Helen Rennie-Smith’s webinar you’ll be more prepared. Teresa, who took the webinar in March, said afterwards:

– Going to see an MP – particularly a male Cabinet member – is a daunting prospect but Helen’s way of going through everything step by step made it much easier.

Remember you’re not helpless – you are in charge!
